The number counts and X-ray luminosities of WARPS galaxy clusters
Abstract
The Wide Angle ROSAT Pointed Survey (WARPS) contains an X-ray selected sample of low luminosity galaxy clusters to redshifts of z ~ 0.7 and offers a measurement of the evolutionary properties of this most abundant type of cluster. The selection of the WARPS sample is very well understood and an extensive programme of optical and X-ray followup has produced an ideal catalogue for detailed cluster studies. We present first results on the LogN-LogS (to a flux limit of 3.5 x 10(-14) ergs(-1) cm(-2) (0.5-2 keV)) and X-ray luminosity function of the WARPS clusters and assess the implications for cluster evolution and the predictions of models of cosmology and structure formation.
